Deadwood, South Dakota has a good selection of highly rated hotels, including casino hotels and historic hotels. It’s a popular place to stay on the north side of South Dakota’s Black Hills, between Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower. We think Deadwood is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere, casinos or to enjoy a historic Old West town.
In this guide, we show you the 8 best hotels in Deadwood SD for all budgets, based on our experiences.
Our Experience In Deadwood
We’ve stayed at more than 10 hotels around South Dakota’s Black Hills over the course of 2 road trips to the area in October 2019 and April 2021. In Deadwood, we stayed at Celebrity Boutique Hotel. Not because it has a casino (we don’t gamble) but because it’s a stunning building and it’s got a superb location in the heart of town. Read more about us.
We knew about the gold rush and Wild West theme, but we didn’t realize Deadwood had become such a hot spot for casinos and groups of friends partying. We enjoyed the lively buzz and the authentic western architecture, but it’s definitely not the best place for families to stay in the Black Hills.

Affordability
Hotels in Deadwood SD are surprisingly affordable compared to other touristy Black Hills towns like Keystone or Custer.
Weekdays and shoulder seasons are the cheapest times to book. You can expect to pay more per night if you visit on weekends, especially in summer.
Another important thing to remember is seasonality. Many hotels around the Black Hills are only open from April through October.

So, let’s say the basic nightly cost at a cheap hotel is $120.00 for one night, your total cost will be more like $133.00.
- When booking your hotel using Booking.com look under the price for includes taxes and fees. This means the price you see is final and won’t be subject to further add ons.
- Conversely, if you see text reading something like +$10 for taxes and fees, that means you’ll pay the hotel room cost + the additional taxes.
Some hotels may even charge a property service fee, so keep an eye out for any additional fees that may not be included in the base prices.
