Manchester has a good selection of highly rated hotels available for your visit to southern Vermont. It’s a popular destination for hiking, fall foliage and skiing, so the small Green Mountain town keeps busy all year. We’ve stayed in Manchester during two separate New England road trips, and on both occasions our hotel was fantastic.
In this guide we show you the best hotels in Manchester VT for all budgets, based on our experiences.
Our Experience
We stayed at The Inn At Manchester back in October 2020 and we stayed at Arcady Mountain Motor Inn during our most recent visit in October 2023. The Inn At Manchester was expensive, but it’s upscale and romantic, whereas Arcady was one of the best low budget stays on our 3 week New England road trip. So, we highly recommend both and you’ll find more about them later in the guide.
What we like about Manchester is that it’s such an unassuming town, but there’s lots to do and there’s plenty of great places to eat. We recommend driving up Equinox Mountain, visiting Hildene and walking around both sides of town. Read more about us.

Where To Stay In Manchester VT
Manchester can easily be split into two distinct areas:
- Manchester Village Historic District (old)
- Manchester Center (new)
Historic Manchester is very quiet, leafy and residential. Whereas Manchester Center is where you’ll find most amenities like shops, restaurants and cafes. But it’s a very small town so it really doesn’t matter which area you choose to stay in terms of being closer to attractions.
What we will say is that if you want to be able to walk to a wide range of restaurants, you should stay in Manchester Center. There’s one or two highly regarded restaurants in Historic Manchester but they’re classy and more expensive.

Affordability
We think Manchester is a bit of a hidden gem because hotel prices are more affordable when compared to other tourist hotspots in Vermont like Stowe and Woodstock. And the good news is that you can find a quality hotel to suit any budget.
Our advice is to book your hotel as far in advance as possible, especially if you plan to visit Manchester in the peak fall foliage weeks around the end of September and beginning of October. Most of the luxury hotels in town have limited rooms available, which is another reason booking early is important.
Added Tax
Bear in mind when booking your hotel in Manchester that you’ll pay 10% hotel tax on top of your base rate. So, let’s say the basic nightly room cost at a hotel is $200.00 for one night, your actual total cost is going to be at $220.00 per night.
- When booking your hotel using Booking.com look under the price for includes taxes and fees. This means the price you see is final and will not be subject to further add ons.
- Conversely, if you see text reading something like +$30 for taxes and fees, that means you’ll pay the hotel room cost + the additional 10% tax.
Our Verdict
Manchester, Vermont is a popular place to stay year round for accessing hikes, foliage and ski resorts in the Green Mountains. You have a good selection of hotels in each price category to choose between, but we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Our stays at Arcady Mountain Motor Lodge and The Inn At Manchester were both excellent and we can highly recommend them. But we’d be more than happy to stay in the Hampton Inn, Reluctant Panther Inn or Barnstead Inn the next time we’re in town.
