Ratings are good to use as a guide but they are subjective and will fluctuate over time. Look for hotels with high scores and a high number of ratings. That is the sign of a quality hotel.

One thing to note is that hotels with the best ratings often translate to hotels with the highest nightly cost. And that is why we do not simply list hotels with the highest ratings in our guides.

Hotels in Springdale Utah are more expensive on average than you would expect to pay at other popular US tourist destinations.

We can tell you from first hand experience that seasonality plays a significant role in Springdale hotel prices. Our Springdale hotel bill was three times higher in October than the price we paid during our visit to Zion in winter.

In order to give you accurate information for prices, we always look ahead to see trends throughout the seasons. Springdale has a very clear peak season and off season, and the price changes are enormous from summer months to winter months.

In fact, we would go as far as saying Springdale hotels have some of the biggest changes in prices from peak to off season we have seen.

You are going to pay much higher nightly rates from June through October, but you stand to pick up some real bargains if you visit Zion from November through May.

Zion National Park Lodge

Are you trying to decide if you should stay in Springdale or in a national park run lodge inside Zion?

Well, let’s take a quick look at what you need to know about the lodge.

The most visited US national parks usually have several official lodge options available for tourists within the park boundaries. However, at Zion you will find just one accommodation inside the park and that is Zion Lodge.

The lodge is located half way into the main Zion canyon around 5 miles northeast of Springdale, close to Emerald Pools trailhead.

You can choose to stay in traditional hotel rooms, more expensive lodge suites or cheaper semi-detached western cabins.

The major benefit to staying at Zion Lodge is location because you are actually in the main canyon just steps from the popular hiking trails.

However, the major downside to staying at Zion Lodge is a lack of amenities. You are isolated in the canyon with no other restaurants except the on site lodge dining room.

Compare prices at Zion Lodge here:

Our Zion Lodge Experience

We stayed in a western cabin at Zion Lodge in December 2021 so that we could be close enough to wake up and hike straight up Angels Landing for sunrise.

Our experience at Zion Lodge was okay, but in truth we expected better for the higher price we paid.

Now, we have also stayed at park run lodges in Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Shenandoah so we have reference points to work with.

What we liked:

  • The location is outstanding just steps from Emerald Pools and not far from Angels Landing.
  • Breakfast is included and it was good (but not as great as Big Meadows in Shenandoah).
  • The view over Zion’s canyon walls from breakfast is amazing.

What we didn’t like:

  • We had to pay extra for coffee at breakfast, which we think is very disappointing.
  • The nightly rate for a western cabin in off season was twice as high as the best rooms in Springdale.
  • The cabin wasn’t the cleanest and we could hear every word our connecting neighbors said.

Would we stay at Zion Lodge again?

Probably not. But remember this is just our personal opinion based on our own experience. You could have an entirely different experience if you booked the Zion Lodge.

Next time we visit Zion we will stay in Springdale where hotels have swimming pools and there are plenty of restaurants available.

However, if we did stay at Zion Lodge again we would definitely book a hotel room or lodge suite rather than a western cabin.

Is It Better To Stay At Zion Lodge Or In Springdale?

We have stayed at Zion Lodge and at 2 hotels in Springdale. Personally we think staying in Springdale is a better choice, especially in the off season when hotels in Springdale are significantly cheaper.

On top of a far superior food selection, you will also benefit from amenities like laundry facilities, grocery stores and access to waterproof hire outfitters for hiking The Narrows or The Subway.

Our advice would be to stay for one night at Zion Lodge if you really want that inside park experience when you visit Zion. Otherwise, stick to Springdale where you have a better choice of hotels.
