Our Experience In Virgin

What do we know about hotels in Virgin?

Well, we have been fortunate enough to visit Zion National Park on two separate occasions to date.

Our first time in Zion was a 3 days and 4 nights trip back in October 2019. And our second visit was for another 3 days and 4 nights in December 2021.

In fact, over the course of 8 nights around Zion National Park, we have stayed at hotels in Springdale, Virgin, La Verkin and Hurricane. Plus, we spent a night in our tent at Zion Watchman Campground and we even spent a night in Zion Lodge.

So in a nutshell, we’ve completed the hotels near Zion game!

In Virgin, we stayed at the popular Fairfield Inn hotel for one night during our visit to Zion in the winter of 2021.

We decided to stay in Virgin because it was the only place we hadn’t stayed around the park, plus it was incredibly convenient for hiking The Subway in Zion.

We ate at Balcony One on the west side of town, which served quality meat dishes at fairly hefty prices. Overall we throughly enjoyed our stay in Virgin.

Is Virgin A Good Place To Stay For Zion?

Springdale is the obvious choice for where to stay in Zion because it has an excellent selection of hotels and restaurants, it is a bustling town and it is on the doorstep for Zion’s main canyon.

However, we think Virgin is the second best place you can stay near Zion National Park. Not just because is the second closest town to Zion’s main canyon, but also because the unique lodging options around Virgin immerse you into the red rock landscape in total isolation.

We have to warn you that most of the hotels in Virgin UT are expensive because they are so unique and they offer you the chance to really experience the amazing natural environment.

You can drive 10 minutes to La Verkin and 15 minutes to Hurricane for a wide range of restaurants if you decide to stay in Virgin for several nights.

The small town of Virgin is just 14 miles from the main visitor center and Zion shuttle which will take you into the canyon. This is where you will find iconic hikes like Angels Landing and The Narrows.

It is important to know that Virgin is a 20 minute drive from Springdale and the entrance to Zion.

Your alternatives to Virgin are Springdale, La Verkin and Hurricane. If you are visiting Zion on a budget, you might want to consider hotels in La Verkin or Hurricane because they are much cheaper.

What Are The Best Hotels In Virgin Utah?

The term best can be interpreted in several ways and it has a different meaning for everyone.

Does best simply mean the highest rated? The highest quality? What about price and location?

In this guide we strive for inclusivity when we show you our version of the best hotels. Our list is based on the highest guest ratings and our own experiences but crucially we include every budget category so that every type of traveler can find the best hotel available.

Are you curious about the best hotels in Virgin UT based purely on ratings?

Here are the top 3 hotels in Virgin according to thousands of reviews from several popular online sources (with at least 100 authentic guest reviews – correct as of September 2023 but subject to frequent changes):

Tripadvisor

Ratings are good to use as a guide but they are subjective and will fluctuate over time. Look for hotels with high scores and a high number of ratings. That is the sign of a quality hotel.

One thing to note is that hotels with the best ratings often translate to hotels with the highest nightly cost. And that is why we do not simply list hotels with the highest ratings in our guides.

Are Hotels In Virgin UT Expensive?

Hotels in Virgin Utah are more expensive on average than any other place you can stay around Zion National Park.

This is because the accommodations are mostly converted campers with hot tubs under the stars or luxury glamping tents. Virgin is the place you should stay for your trip to Zion if you want that truly unique red rock experience under the stars with barely another soul in sight.

The exception is Fairfield Inn, which is where we stayed. This is the only typical chain hotel in Virgin but it does have excellent ratings and it is affordable.

In order to give you accurate information for prices, we always look ahead to see trends throughout the seasons. What we can see is that Virgin UT hotels are priced consistently throughout the seasons. So you won’t benefit from lower prices in the off season as much as you will in Springdale.

Hotel Tax In Virgin

Bear in mind when booking your hotel in Virgin UT that you will pay 13-14% hotel tax on top of your base rate. We have checked all lodging options in this list and the tax % is different each time.

And due to the nature of the accommodation types in Virgin, you might have to pay additional property service fees, resort fees or even a cleaning fee (similar to booking an Airbnb).

  • When booking your hotel using Booking.com look under the price for includes taxes and fees. This means the price you see is final and will not be subject to further add ons.
  • Conversely, if you see text reading something like +$26 for taxes and fees, that means you will pay the hotel room cost + the additional taxes and fees.

Taxes are just something to be aware of so you avoid any nasty surprises when you come to pay.
